Mission trip to Hacha & Manchuila - Report - June 2021

Hello, our brothers.

God allowed a team to come this past month of June to Panama and do missions at the mountains forest in Panama.

It was a team of 6 people from Miami, Florida, but they all speak Spanish, and the leading pastor is from El Salvador. So it was amazing how they take the mission very seriously in their Church. It is good to see my people helping us take the Gospel to Hacha and Manchuila.

We divided the team into two, the girls in Hacha and the men in Manchuila (new place).

MANCHUILA REPORT:

Manchuila is the new place where the mama tata leader closed the doors and gave us rules such as, "do not share the gospel door to door." We made two trips before the team arrived to talk with the leader. Still, it was not possible, so we took the group anyway, and on the first day in Manchuila, we tried to speak to him again. Still, he wasn’t in Manchuila, so we went door to door and shared the Gospel anyway. Some houses did not receive us, but others did receive us and were opened to hear the Gospel.

On the third day, we went from hut to hut, and we saw a meeting at the mama tata temple. Hence, we go there to share Bible stories, but guess what? The Mama Tata leader was at the meeting. We did not recognize him at the moment; he kept quiet with a smile on his face, he was very friendly afterward. After the meeting, we invited the people for another meeting at 4 pm. After we left, Ricardo (one of the Cristian family in that area) told us that the man was the Mama Tata leader. We were surprised that at 4, around 15 people came to hear. We were able to share the Gospel. They were very interested in knowing more, and some of them say I want to believe, but we need to learn more.

So, God opened doors and opened the people's hearts to hear the Gospel. Now the plan in Manchuila is that we start the water filter project in that area in one month to break the ice more, so be praying for that.

Pray for Ricardo and His family. He is a young man that wants to know more about Jesus.

Pray for Elisia, a person of peace that God uses to host us in their family house.

Pray for Manchuila that God keeps opening doors in that area.

 HACHA REPORT:

Both places presented their challenges, but they were overcome. The team came without expectations, which allowed flexibility to take place. Been the first trip after so long, the village people were glad to receive the team at their homes. In Hacha, even the group was allowed to share a Bible story at the Mama Tata temple while holding a large meeting; they were opened to hearing the Bible story because Alexis (Ngobe coordinator) had previously talked with the Mama Tata leader in Hacha. Bernabe will follow up with the more than 12 people who said yes in Hacha and Punta Switche (a small village further down the river). One of the highlights of the week was Celina; the team arrived at her home, she did not want to say her name, and she even seems to be upset, but as the team shared the story, Celina (later she told us her name) opened to not only provide her name but to pray. The Holy Spirit oversees the work. Another case was Melvin; my mom sat at the school porch, and since Hacha is a transit village, many people pass by and take a moment to rest before continuing their hike to their destination that in many cases takes days. Melvin stopped, and it was a wonderful moment to share the Word of God, he is from Tolote, and the seed was planted in his heart; he allowed me to pray for a safe hike.

Pray for Celina, and the others that are waiting to learn more, for Melvin as he ponders in his heart the Word given and the many others that heard and received the seed.  Pray for Bernabe as he prepares to hike back to Hacha and Manchuila soon, to follow on the work there.
